After the CC I was given a lift back to Edinbra from Loch Feochan. Turned out to be a nice guy, a journalist who had spent a summer in Norway in his Ohlson 38. Apparently its not cold and bleak, but mild and lush, with islands. But expensive for food and drink, though this can make good ballast on a trip across the North Sea..

We were leaving on Monday but stuff has meant a postponement 'till a week on Monday. Plan is Fair Isle, Shetland, Norway weather permitting. Not much of a plan I know, but its all we've got. Some charts have been borrowed and we are planning to use single malts as currency.

What is Todka doing?

Up on friday for a ten day cruise. Not sure where yet.

Sounds good to me. I'm watching this with interest, since I've a notion of trying this one day. How long are you planning to be away? There was some discussion either in one of the mags or on TOP about potential bureaucratic issues if you leave a boat in Norway over the winter.

Plan is to be away for eight weeks. Don't know how long we will actually be in Norway, could be a few days. could be a month or more - or we may never get there. Last time we headed for Shetland (2005) we never got past Orkney.

Sure you can't use blended malts as there's no single currency?
Am down in Poole harbour where my cousin has a Hunter 25. Studland tomorrow or perhaps round the back of Brownsea Island. Weather is worse than Argyll. How do you do a radio check?

I planned to go from Edinburgh via Fair Isle and Shetland but instead just sailed/motored directly from Stonehaven with a good weather window.

If you are heading for the Bergen area I would highly recommend making your first port of call "Espevaer" 59 35 21N , 5 09 27E, off the southern tip of Bomlo and very handy for Hardangerfjord.

It's a very pretty and offers very good shelter. From what I saw you can tie up virtually anywhere other than the well marked ferry berth

The water is usually fairly deep close to the rocks


so there are a number of different mooring options







Take as much beer, wine and spirits as you can carry, and have a safe and really enjoyable trip.

Fabulous pictures. I can feel a cruise there coming on. Next season perhaps?
